I've been wondering about the apparent consistency of our yards per
game and its non-correlation with points scored in a game.

It seems like there must be a standard of deviation analysis that can
be done; if a team averages 5 yards per play (for example), its mean
ppg game will be X, + or -1 standard of deviation yields a range, and
then seeing whether the actual ppg over the course of a season form a
bell curve.

It struck me that sacks might be a bit of a wild card, pushing points
per game to a lower output than one would expect based upon the
offensive efficiency alone. Severe (15 yard variety) penalties are
potential drive killers as well.

That then led me to wonder if the inconsistency in point scoring may
be the result of our losses on the OL and the increase in sacks
allowed, and not really the Harvin/Murphy factor.
