All folks who are truly Manhattans have my eternal love. It is the nerve center, economic center, intellectual, cultural and historical center of our country. If George hadn't been able to escape with his army in the dead of a cold night from Long Island to Manhattan, we would not have a country without a Queen. Or, depending on almost certain genetic sloppiness, a king. Yuk to that!
I'm sure you have rent control. My late, great (extremely great, actually) aunt Daisy of upper Manhattan near Columbia and the park with a view of the Hudson, had me up every summer for two months when I was a teenager. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE PLACE. How little you all know me. I also spent a summer in Maine on Lake Sabattus when I was 15. It was my Huckleberry summer. Are there still Italian grinders at local groceries, Bob? A. Leon Polhill, Gator Friends are the family that we choose for ourselves. ________________________________ From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tue, November 10, 2009 4:14:34 PM Subject: [gatortalk] Re: Various Vandy stuff Tough? There are pluses and minuses. I like being fifteen minutes from work (without a car), and walking distance from tons of different, great restaurants. However, you pay a price here, economically-speaking. Taxes are astronomical, as is the cost of housing. Local and state government policies here really punish the middle class, and drive people and businesses away in droves. There is much more upward mobility in low tax places, such as Florida. I could write a lot more, but then I'd stray into THFGT territory, and definitely incur the wrath of Leon. Don't want to do that. Go Gators!!!! Ken B. No HDTV for me. I have other priorities for my money, like fixing up our new apartment. Bathrooms and kitchen are in need of renovation. A television might be the last thing. I am hoping to have a new one in place before the 2010 college football season. Go Gators!!!! Ken B. I figure as long as I don’t watch one, I won’t know what I am missing. I have not even watched an HDTV program yet (just got the box hooked up this afternoon), but I'm sure it will be great. The TVs have come way down in price--especially if you don't have to have a giant one. Look for a lot of good deals for Christmas shopping.
