The OC and DC positions at Florida are, in my opinion, great jobs that, as we've seen, can lead to an HC position.
While I understand the logic and benefits of promoting from within, I wonder if Meyer would consider hiring a Coordinator from outside the program. I don't believe he considered it when Mullen left. I wonder if he feels there is someone on the defensive staff ready to step up and become DC. Obviously, he'd have to make sure the outsider fits in well with the existing staff, and has a similar coaching philosophy to Meyer. And he'd likely have to smooth over the relationships with those who were not promoted, but hiring from outside is something he might want to consider. Perhaps Dan Carney (our DL coach?) is ready to take over the DC responsibilities. But in light of our offensive struggles this year, I wonder if promoting someone from within is an automatic. I am not totally convinced that had all the above gone our way the Gators would have won. Alabama has had this game circled on their calendar for about a year now. Revenge can be a powerful motivator. Time heals all wounds I think with all that will be going on in the next four weeks, it will be a tribute to the coaching staff and the players if we show up at the Sugar Bowl ready to play.
