I wasn't aware that he had several issues. I remember that he reported out of shape and overweight.
I wonder how he might have fared if there was still a JV team. Sometimes I think that the NCAA did our freshman players a disservice by the elimination of JV. It gave them a chance to be one the field and have some significant game experience. Would that game experience have motivated Brown to work harder on and off the field? Who knows. I am always saddened when players and students are not successful. In my own case, when my students do not succeed, I consider it not only their failure but my own in that I could not find the right combination of motivators.
