Aw... bummer. That really makes me sad. It has been a favorite spot since I
was 18, and that was almost as long ago as when Oliver was 18!

I like to park off 8th Ave and walk. It's just part of the experience for
me, especially since we cut through the woods right by JJ Finley and get to
walk through the tail-Gators there. ;-) We come out right by the
Foundation/Alum building, go in there for a little while, then head to the
game... or, depending on the time of day, we might head up to Cafe Gardens and
have lunch first. After the game, we walk back through what we hope is a
celebratory crowd, get in our car and scoot right out of town. No traffic
whatsoever.

    And it's FREE!

I think Stephen is right that getting older makes it more difficult to
get past the physical discomforts of attending a Gator game. I really do not
like attending a noon game in September and I hate it that TV takes precedence
over the fans. It is difficult to feel appreciated by the UAA in that situation
and when years (or decades) of buying tickets aren't enough to entitle you to
tickets to the big postseason games. Still there is nothing like being part of
the crowd for a big game when the Gators come away with a win.
Our seats now cost us $2,000 a year, but at least we get four of them,
and we really like our view. The best part is that no one can stand in front of
us and we can sit down if that's what we want to do. Now that our kids are
grown, we are talking about eventually trying to find somebody to share the
tickets with us and cutting back on the games we attend. I would hate to ever
give them up as they've been in the family for more than 30 years.
Charlie's story about the O&B game and the various responses to it do
indicate the value of planning ahead when attending a game. I definitely
believe in going up early enough to avoid the traffic jams. We always park in
the parking garage down by the cancer center, which is free. You also get out
quickly after the game. If you're willing to walk a little, you can't beat it.

It wasn’t the bad season we had last year, it has more to do with
getting a little older and enjoying other things in life and asking myself is
the money worth it.

Year before last, the wife and I put in a screened in pool with summer
kitchen, I can also put a nice HD TV out there whenever I want, equipped with
Directv to watch any game I choose while cooking, drinking beer and jumping
in/out of the pool.

Over the years, I kept upgrading my seats to where I’ve been the last
10-15 years, section 7 row 73, between the 30-35 yard line, alumni side. The
bill this year including donation was well over $3000.

Last year at the opener which was at noon, temperature in the upper
90’s I kept thinking what in the hell am I doing here, when I could be cool,
cooking something great to eat, and watching this on a nice HD TV.

Over the years all the booster points I’ve earned are worth very
little, all the new big money bandwagon fans have overwhelmed the system to the
point that I couldn’t get SEC championship tickets the last time we went to
Atlanta, I couldn’t get National Title tickets and last year I couldn’t get
away game tickets to F$U.

Finally, last year we went to 3 home games, plus the Fla/Ga game I
don’t know if I can continue justifying over $3000/year for 4-5 games, when I
can go to any game I want because all the new big money boosters buy extra
tickets they sell on ebay, stub hub, etc.

I think it's got more to do with the current economy, gas prices and
general inflation costs across the board we are ALL being pinched by. I think
we're all being forced to rethink where our dollars are going. Just my 2 cents,
and right now that's all I've got left.
