I don't know if those sports were added in response to Title IX but the timing was close. I think swimming had a lot to do with the success of one of my high school classmate, Catie Ball. Likewise tennis probably also had a lot to do with the popularity of women's pro tennis. I believe both sports were in the planning for a few years before they started. Most sports take some time to ramp up.
I tried to research the track program, but I could not find any history that was separated from the men's program. The earliest standing record was 1980 but I am pretty sure there was a women's track program before I left Florida in 1977. (I was here from 1970. I left in 1977 ABD but did not graduate until 1979.) Not sure about women's track. -Zeb -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us
