These, to my eye, would actually be improper benefits.

If a normal student would be ineligible for a $2,700 loan, then a Gainesville
bank giving Floyd one is giving him an improper benefit. Given his financial
background and that he has no job, I can't imagine that a normal student in his
situation would receive a loan. The one NCAA-approved exception to this rule
that I know of is to buy disability insurance.

Maybe a friend/teammate could loan the money. That's possibly bad as well. If
the equivalent of a Gator Getter student loans money to top athletes once they
make it to campus, that would be an inducement even though it happened after
enrollment.

Our Gator club once raised money for a local basketball player who had played
for UF. He was not NBA-caliber, but had joined a Christian-outreach basketball
team that travelled. We had raised the money through a golf tournament so that
he could afford to go with the team to Europe. As good little boosters, we
checked with UF Compliance and, sadly, were told that we could not give him the
money even though he was no longer a student.

So, I'm not real sure how Floyd comes up with the money without creating a
worse problem.
