What I see is a lack of focus on the O-line. They look lost. Moving from the zone blocking schemes to this pro-style has wrecked havoc and left them confused.
I also see (and this is no surprise) no go to running back. Not sure that would really matter with such poor run blocking, but we have nothing in the way of a battering ram. Burton tries, but lets face it-- he is no running back. He just doesn't have the speed burst or the vision. We also sorely lack any big possession type receivers. There is no Riley Cooper. There is no one receiver that steps up game in and game out to make a play. We don't have anyone that can go up and fight for a jump ball like UGA had... twice. Reed is by far our best... everyone else shows up occasionally, usually on a deep ball. We can't live by the deep ball. We must have solid and reliable threats across the middle and on the out patterns. Without that, our tiny running backs running the sweeps are victimized by corner backs who sold out because there is no receiving threat. And what is wrong with Rainey? All those muffed punts and then two dropped probably touchdowns on a slant... not to mention the fumble. We need pro-style players to play a pro-style offense. That is large, overly fed, strong O-line men and sizeable receivers mixed with speed. We have speed, just no size. It will take some time to fill all the gaps. I hate to say it, but will be longer than 3 years. Even incoming recruits won't make a real impact for 2 years. For Muschamp and Weiss's systems to take a hold, they need their type of players. Those types won't be difference makers until they have been in the system and in the weight room for at least 2 years... Its going to take awhile, but the good news is, if fans and decisions makers allow, it will work and work well with time. ________________________________ From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, October 29, 2011 10:21 PM Subject: Re: [gatortalk] 0 for October What is surprising is the seemingly total lack of team discipline: penalties are killing us, 2 delay of game calls in a row is inexcusable, continued failure to execute good fundamentals. This shouldnt be too much of a surprise. Some things.. Yes. Record somewhat of their performance... No. Not surprised.
