I think we all became convinced that coaching made the most difference in success with Steve Spurrier as coach. We still looked at Meyer through that lens when he proved that great recruiting leads to greater success. All this within reason. You have to recruit well in every position. (Zook proved that). And you have to have, at least, good (as opposed to great) coaching. Also, assuming Meyer is telling the truth, your reasoning breaks down. There was no job offer from the Buckeyes or Arizona. That is a mental stretch, of course, that he's truthful.
