I think this analysis is dead on. If Grier wants to transfer, he has to do it now, as he has already redshirted.
If not, he would sit out half a year, possibly ride the bench for another half, and then sit out another year at another D1 school. He would have one year of eligibility remaining, and would not have played in almost three years. If he can find a school (like NC State and Boston College, apparently) where the coach will promise him the starting position, better to transfer now and let his 6 remaining game suspension overlap with the transfer year.
