We did the same thing - denied all outbound access to the gotomypc.com
server. But make sure you deny access to the server that hosts their
service, not just the web server - they're two different addresses.

I am absolutely against this kind of service being allowed into a business.
Although this might be a nice/cheap way of doing remote control, I see it as
a huge gaping security hole. Anyone that can remote control my pc in my
company has full access to everything that I have access to. Even if that is
the receptionist, that's too much access for the outside world for my
comfort.

All it takes is one disgruntled employee with access to company private data
to set up an account on one of these places, and allow 2-3 'friends' to have
access to his/her machine, and you've got a full-fledged security
breach/hack attack/who knows what on your hands.

I would find another way to do collaborative work that doesn't involve
outsiders coming in to your private network.

webex.com is another such site.

Good luck,

Subject: [gb-users] GoToMyPC

I'm having a discussion here with management concerning the "service"
offered by Expertcity, Inc. and their website www.gotomypc.com.

I think this subject has appeared in the user forum before, but some
time
ago. Essentially, this product punches a hole through the firewall by
initiating an outbound connection to Expertcity's server, and then
allows a
user to connect to the PC on the protected network by exploiting that
outbound connection.

I've shut this off in our network by denying access to the server from
the
protected side. But there are those who feel this is a really neat
thing!

I would be interested in comments from the gb-users, pro or con, on this

subject. Also, is anyone aware of any other "like" applications or
offerings that defeat firewalls, no matter how "firewall friendly" they
are
portrayed?
