I just configured my Gnatbox secondary MX with a MAPS entry for a domain that exists (known to the root name servers), but the actual authoritative nameservers are dead. When I try do a manual lookup, you get a time out error from nslookup. This should simulate ORDB or whoever being out of service. When you connect to the GnatBox SMTP port, there is delay before you get a response to the HELO, but the mail is accepted. It looks like the GnatBox accepts the mail unless one of the MAPS lookups explicitly denys it.
