Corey,

Pretty close, but I think you got SMTP confused with SNMP. Jonas needs
SNMP access inside his network.

Jonas,

Be SURE you're familiar with the security risks of opening up SNMP access
from the public internet.

Next, you'll want to setup an inbound tunnel to tcp and udb port 161
(note, it appears that MRTG only uses UDP, so you may not need to open the
TCP port.) on the inside. If you have more then one machine on the inside
that you wish to monitor, you'll need to either a) have a seperate public
(external) IP address aliased and available for port 161, OR b) you'll
need to learn how to force MRTG to use a nonstandard port.

http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/reference.html

Scroll down till you find "Extended Host Name Syntax"

This way you can, if you have multiple servers inside, use just one
external IP address and nonstandard ports for MRTG to poll.

Alternately, and what I'd recommend doing, you could setup a second MRTG
inside your protected network. You could then script scp or ftp to push
your graphs out to your external webserver, where you'd have the graphs
linked normally, after each update.

good luck.
