If you click on the the safenet icon in the systray, there is a log window you can open up. You can see the various key negotiations etc. in there. When I've had the problem with the VPN dying, the log had all kinds of obvious messages in it. Wait until the terminal emulator dies and check the log. Another thing that comes to mind is to start a command prompt on the client and do a ping -t on something on the other side of the VPN. When the emulator drops see if the ping is still going.
