If you edit your git config to replace the forge URL with the gcc.gnu.org repo URL it would be helpful if the same branch name worked in both places. If you have something referring to refs/heads/main that would only work for the forge. ... But this argument also suggests we should keep both trunk and master for the same reason. But if we only keep one of them, at least there will be a name that exists in both repos, and we can choose to use that one. If the forge uses 'main' that wouldn't be true. I can see an argument in favour of either using 'master' on the forge *or* changing the default branch for the official repo to be 'trunk' so that fresh clones of that repo check out 'trunk' by default.
