The rsync is a one-off cost. Once you have the repository locally you can checkout any individual revision much more quickly. I have a local copy of the gcc repository and a checkout of gcc trunk from localhost takes about 40 seconds. I'm not using fancy hardware. I can even check it out across my very average WiFi in just over 60 seconds. -- Philip
