After messing around with the existing installation and not getting anywhere, I decided to start again. Again. I'm now trying to build all the libraries first using build-libs. This is not exactly going smoothly. I've used your rman->true trick to get around the libx11 problem, but certain packages claim to need items that aren't even mentioned in their depencency list. I'll be busy with other things the coming days, but after wasting this much time on this issue I intend to get to the bottom of it eventually. Thanks for your assistance for far.
