Are libgeos.so and libgeos_c.so needed in building gdal and its
dependency libraries?
If they are needed, where can I download the source code to
build/include it in the gdal package?
I am running Linux and Solaris 9.

GEOS is not a required dependency of GDAL/OGR; however, a number of additional
capabilities within OGR become available when built with GEOS. GEOS can be
found at:
http://geos.osgeo.org/
If you don't know of a specific reason you need it, I'd be inclined to leave
it out.
