Note that Mapinfo files don't support list field types.

Also, I get the default TAB format - where do I put the FORMAT=MIF
statement in?

Hi,

I can't say anything about your main problem, but this is easy:
http://gdal.org/ogr/drv_mitab.html
"Dataset Creation Options
    * FORMAT=MIF: To create MIF/MID instead of TAB files (TAB is the default). "

Thus, try -dsco FORMAT=MIF.

Ha!
I did not notice the -dsco option in the ogr2ogr html docs.
Thanks Jukka.

On a more disturbing note, I notice that (probably due to the ERROR 1 in my first post) I get only 22 attribute fields (but all the records) when I convert with ogr2ogr, and I get 27 attribute fields when I use my 1997 edition MapInfo bundled IMUTGUI

I don't have time to look into this right now, but if there is a developer on this list that would like some sample data, please let me know.
I just feel that the current version, because it does create the output files, could cause problems for a less nosey ( :-) ) user.

Regards to all,
Zoltan
