I am trying to compile gdal 1.7.1 on 64-bit linux system.
no problems previously with 1.6.0 nor 1.6.3.
I get:
/usr/bin/ld: /usr/local/lib/libjasper.a(jas_stream.o): relocation
R_X86_64_32S against `a local symbol' can not be used when making a
shared object; recompile with -fPIC
/usr/local/lib/libjasper.a: could not read symbols: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[1]: *** [libgdal.la] Error 1
Is there a configure option which takes care of this?
