I have written a small utility based on gdal recently that extracts the
bounding box of any supported spatial data file.

This utility is very useful for creating metadata geographic extents
according to ISO19139
I would like to improve it and contribute it to gdal utilities under the
name "gdal_extents".
Would this kind of utility be of interest? Could you please suggest
improvements needed?
