Grateful for your replies. Am not fluent yet in all the coordinate systems. Will learn them though.
We have a DTED dt0 file that has 121*121 data points. Used geotools to get the elevation at point (1,1). When gdallocationinfo.exe was run at the same point (1,1) gdallocationinfo returned the same elevation. A good sign. Plan to port the gdallocationinfo.cpp to Java. Will report back when it is complete. Maybe someone else is interested also. Thank you.
