You need to first install subversion, a compiler and other things to compile software. Once you have the proper environment, then for the basic GDAL build (which would not include mdb of any sort) it is not too difficult and there are directions on the wiki, http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/wiki/BuildingOnUnix Adding in more formats and drivers is more difficult. Usually, there are details on the format page, http://gdal.org/ogr/drv_mdb.html and/or the build hints section of the wiki, http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/wiki/BuildHints For the way I did it for the Access mdb driver, I had to make a file /etc/ld.so.sonf.d/libjvm.conf which just has the path pointing to libjvm.so I did this based on the file not found errors I got after compiling and running ogrinfo on the first attempt. I don't fully understand what is the proper way to address issues like this and there may be better ways. I first learned about it using the FileGDB driver.
