I noticed your changeset and I was just reading the shapefile specification. I never knew that there are no separate XYZ and XYZM shapetypes. I also believe I have never met a shapefile that really contains XYZM data. I agree that the default should be to convert such shapefiles to XYZ instead of XYZM.
