ECW support is not enabled in the Debian package, that's why your client
doesn't have it.
You probably have a custom build installed in /usr/local or elsewhere.
Yes, I found that eventually. I finally decided to convert the ecw to
jpeg compress tiff files since it was a reasonable small collection of
files and that is working very nicely.
