Well - the Homebrew formula for GDAL 3.4.1 seems to mandate Proj 7 https://formulae.brew.sh/formula/gdal
That is strange - since the Conda package works on Proj 8! I don't know who supports the Brew packaging - I don't think it is core team since Homebrew is not listed on the installation page. https://gdal.org/download.html I must admit that is why I use Conda on all platforms - it is "generally" more up to date and being an environment manager and not just a package manager it manages cases like this a lot more robust.
