One point I should probably underline for packagers is the following
part of NEWS.md
## New optional dependencies
* [muparser](https://github.com/beltoforion/muparser) is *strongly*
recommended
to be added as a build and runtime dependency, to provide nominal
support for
C++ VRT expressions.
* [exprtk](https://github.com/ArashPartow/exprtk) may be added as a build
dependency (this is a header-only library) to provide support for
advanced
C++ VRT expressions. Note that it causes an increase in libgdal size
of about
8 MB. exprtk support is recommended to be an addition to muparser
support, not
as a replacement.
I'm raising this since I see that the Debian package hasn't muparser
enabled (as far as I can see in
https://salsa.debian.org/debian-gis-team/gdal/-/blob/experimental/debian/control?ref_type=heads),
whereas muparser is available in Debian:
https://packages.debian.org/sid/libmuparser2v5)
