I have a some builds online[1] which don't have the update popup as they
are built on
the latest Gears svn.
They were created with Scott's patch and the xulrunner/firefox-3.0.1 libs
from Ubuntu
Intrepid. The XPI is for Firefox 3 only - the Firefox 2 shared object was
not built.
I have been using my self-compiled plugin with a number of gears-heavy
sites and
haven't had any observable problems. However, aside from working for me,
they are
untested.
