On second thoughts, since extractMetaData doesn't add anything extra apart from mimeType (unlike PNG and JPEG, which extract imageWidth and imageHeight), it's probably easier to just do the file extension heuristic in JavaScript. I'll revert this CL, although for the record, I'll also re-mail it, this time with the patch attached.
