Finally, I have completed installation of Google Gears from a PC behind
corporate proxy !
NB: My company's proxies are without password.
My steps:
- use Win XP winhttp proxy utility proxycfg.exe to setup the proxy
proxycfg -p 10.x.x.x:8080
- temporarily disable DNS lookups. Gears Installer, when found out that it
could do a DNS lookup on google's servers, persistently tried to connect
directly to them. What I do is : override DNS server setting by filling it
to my server's IP address, which I certain that it doesn't serve DNS
records at all.
