Hi,

I have a user who can't seem to install Gears properly. Whenever she
goes to http://gears.google.com, it shows that gears is not
installed. She gets the following error after download:

"The installer encountered error 1601: The windows installer service
could not be accessed. This can occur if the windows installer is not
correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

She reports that there is a folder in her C: drive named Google Gears.

I've had several users complain about installation failing on Vista.
Are there known workarounds or tests that I can use to debug these
problems? Does anyone have solutions to this particular 1601 issue?

Thanks
Dave Viner
