Geary more or less targets the GNOME desktop, hence the dependency on
its keyring. I'm afraid if you aren't running the GNOME services
there's not much we can do to help. What DE are you using?
I'm not 100% sure why it doesn't work when you run the daemon manually.
I believe the keyring API simply turns around and makes calls on
DBUS, where the keyring service is supposed to be listening. I'm not
sure how specifically gnome-keyring-daemon fits into that puzzle, but
the man page doesn't mention anything about DBUS, and neither does the
output you pasted.

password in GNOME keyring: GNOME_KEYRING_RESULT_CANCELLED
I'm not sure if this is a bug in Geary or in my setup and how to fix
this, so it would be great if you could help me.
