For what it's worth, GNOME-keyring does *not* require GNOME and works
perfectly in Xfce and Elementary. It's built upon gcrypt, glib2 and
dbus. If it doesn't work, that's because it's not installed correctly.
Its successor libsecret will implement a freedesktop.org DBus API that's
KDE-compatible.
Now after having cleaned up the misconceptions, in my humble view, Geary
only needs to improve on error handling - I don't see the advantage of
duplicating the existing, standardized plugin system called "secret".
