Hi,

Just a couple of general observations on the Lumichrome bulbs:

1) The T-8 (1" diameter) 48" Lumichrome bulbs are a little more particular
about the ballast being used - they seem to work just fine in standard
aquarium fixtures and "combo hood" style reptile fixtures, but don't always
work well in cheap shoplight fixtures (i.e. "$7 Home Depot Specials"). This
is not limited to Lumichrome bulbs - many true T-8 bulbs have this problem.
48" Lumichrome bulbs also come in a T-12 size (1-1/2" diameter), and I
haven't heard of any problems with using these in shoplight-style fixtures.

2) Make sure you get the 1XX Lumichrome bulb. There are others out there
(1X; 1XC; 3XX; 2X; 1XZ), but these do not provide the UVB output or the nice
white 6500K color temperature. As far as I know, only the 1XX style
Lumichrome bulbs have significant UVB output...

To answer Lyle's questions - I like the Lumichrome bulbs because they are
much brighter (whiter light) than the Reptisun bulbs, and they cost quite a
bit less.

Cheers,

John
