Back in the summer I was hunting around for some substrate to use in dart frog
tanks. I found something called 'Profile Aquatic Plant Soil' at the garden
center. It's clay particles fired at extreme temperatures, which turns it into
something like Seramis. Several people on the mailing list mentioned the
similarity. It's not quite the same, but apparently close. Since I've never laid
eyes one Seramis, I can't honestly say one way or the other, but at least it is
available on this side of the Big Pond.
Description of the product:
Each granule of PROFILE contains thousands of storage spaces which hold water
and oxygen in nearly perfect balance. PROFILE is made from 100% natural fuller's
earth. This unique mineral is kiln fired creating ceramic granules which will
work year after year to improve soil structure. PROFILE is not a chemical or
fertilizer, is non toxic and has a neutral pH.
The info is from http://www.profileproducts.com/lawn_12.html
Would this be a suitable substitute, or worth trying? I'd hate to experiment
with it if it's not even close the same as Seramis.
