Pumice is not zinc sulphate. It's a porous glassy lava, usually quite
foamy - some kinds even float. It's used as an abrasive, among other
things. Perlite is a kind of semi-artificial pumice - it's another volcanic
glass that is popped like popcorn to make it foamier and lighter in density.
It has sealed as well as open pores, and floats.
Jon, is the pumice you describe more similar to perlite or to the calcined
clay ceramic?
