I have no good explanation for this, but one of my desert banded geckos 
(_Coleonyx variegatus variegatus_) once took a few bites of shredded 
carrot.  (We weren't sure exactly *what* they would take when we first got 
them, so we offered a bunch of different stuff experimentally.  I've got 
video of the bit with the carrot, or I wouldn't believe it myself.)
