The styrofoam cooler is an insulating material, it helps mantain
temperatures more constant than glass would. The eggs are usually placed
into several different kinds of mediums, depending on the hobbyist.
Vermiculite (found in most garden stores) is probably the best for someone
to start out with. The deli cup is filled about half-way with moist
vermiculite (The moisture level varies by species), and I like to bury the
eggs about half an egg down (horizontally, egg laying on its side, its
important that reptile eggs are placed in the position they were layed,
this prevents the embryo from drowning in the egg) in the vermiculite. The
deli cup needs to have two or three small holes on the sides to enable gas
exchange. The deli cup is covered and then placed in the incubator.
There's a lot more to it than that depending on the species. Any
