To add to this nice post, if you have a gecko that has a "slit" type pupil, it is
likely noctural. Slit pupils allow fuller opening of the pupil and maximum
stimulation of night time vision receptors spread throughout the eye. Concentric
(round) pupils are better suited to diurnal (daytime) geckos as they concentrate
stimulation of day time receptors to the central part of the eye where most of
these receptors are (the fovea if I remember right).
