There's not much more I can add, other than the info at the website. Jon Boone
could add some info I suppose, since he's the one who mentioned using Seramis. I
originally bought it as a substrate for the false bottom in my dart frog tanks.
A web search for Profile Aquatic Plant Soil produced hundreds of hits, many of
them aquarium related. Seems it's used in fresh water and marine tanks as well.
(I even tried it in the cat litter box once, but don't tell her that. It's
useless as kitty litter, don't bother trying it.)

I've used peat from day one, and never had a problem with it. On the other hand,
vermiculite was the pits for me, I lost almost every egg I tried it with. It
just goes to show there's no one perfect solution, use whatever works. I'm
trying the Profile mostly to see if it works, not because I've really had
problems with peat. The only thing I don't like about peat is that the eggs get
dirty and hard to candle. That's not a major problem in itself, I can live with
that. The eggs in the profile can be candled without any particles obscuring the
view. After all these years, I can finally clearly see the little suckers
developing inside. No peat or discolouration getting in the way. That in itself
is worth trying the Profile.
