You should also check out Kellar Autumn and co's research. They worked out the adhesive force of a single gecko foot hair (seta) and found that they are incredibly powerful; if you covered one side of a dime with setae it could hold a weight of 20 kilos! They are looking to develop adhesives based on gecko setae that could lead to sticky-tapes that work underwater and in a vacuum (e.g. in space).
