That's true, red or blue bulb.

Could be. I would use a 8-1/2" standard reflector lamp and regular incandescent
bulb in this type of set-up, choose a bulb that provides the  86-88F temps in the
warm side, and use a timer to have it coincide with daytime hours.

I would have that one just for night viewing, either turn it on when you want to
see the gex, or have it on a pm hours timer.
