Hello,
I was wondering if anyone feeds their Leopard geckos just mealworms. After
reading The Leonard Gecko Manual, which everyone highly recommends. It's
sounds like a diet of primarily mealworms would not harm them or shorten
their lives. If this book is so highly respected why does everyone fuss with
crickets? Just curious. Would like to hear your thoughts on this subject.
Jill
There's a little side bar that said,
Mealworms are a pretty good diet for leopard geckos. Most of the longevity
records with leopard geckos were obtained with animals which for the first
years of their lives were fed exclusively mealworms. There are many leopard
geckos 15 or more years old that were fed primarily mealworms. Thus, these
lizards can achieve substantial life spans with diets consisting primarily of
these insects. No study to date has proven that crickets or other insects are
more beneficial to leopard geckos.
