Could it be that they chose this particular tree for ease of filming?
Not having seen the show (no cable), I wonder if they would have had a
difficult time filming the adventurer scaling tall trees that were
within the forest. The fact that the tree was alone in a field may have
prompted the camerapaerson or director to choose it over a tree that
would have a chance of harboring a gecko or two. For these people it is
the 'shot' that matters, showing someone scaling a dangerously tall tree
and not so much showing the audience geckos. Doesn't make sense, but
that is tv for you.
