I am having a lot of trouble getting my spider gecko to eat. He has a bacterial infection that affected his eye and he is still on the medication (1 more week). I have to force feed him crickets and mealworms. He will not, however, eat on his own. I would really appreciate it if someone with spider gecko experience could give me some help. Maybe I could speak with them off-list regularly until I get him eating again. What causes these things to cease eating? Thanks to everyone who helps. I'm so frustrated and the poor gecko is probably losing teeth. Jupiter

Hello-
I don't have spider geckos but maybe the medicine and the infection are the reason your animal won't eat. If the stress of force feeding is too much, wait awhile before trying to feed him again. Especially since he has only one more week of meds. Maybe his appetite will come back then.
You did not mention if the infection has cleared up or if the animal is losing weight.
I know that my other lizards (not geckos)  stop eating when on medication.
The thread on P. masobe mentioned the toxicity of panacur. I'm not surprised when animals die or have reactions to medicine. Sometimes we even poison them. With good intentions of course, but some meds are just a smidge away from being poison. Especially when the animals weight in at an ounce or two, or less.
good luck
Brad
