Hi,
I'm new here but not to herps and I can tell you from experience that I
would change the cage set-up so they can't reach the screen top. I had a
hatchling beardie that liked to play Batman and one day he fell but his claw
hung up and it snapped his leg right at the ankle. $175, 2 casts (he hit a
growth spurt and outgrew the first cast by the second week) and 7 years
later he walks on the top of his foot as it's rolled under and fused in
place and is missing the tips on most of his toes on that foot as well
(damaged from hanging on the screen). There is also the risk of not seeing
your leo when you go to open the top and s/he could possible get hurt if
half hanging on the screen and half on the branch or rock that leads up to
it. Sliding tops are even more dangerous in this situation if you have a
breeder tank you're using. Anyhow, some lizards just like to play Batman but
it can be a costly adventure.
