Burke...

Keep it moist. You might try soaking him in a supersaturated solution of
sugar and water. It might help get the swelling down. All this is just
first aid until you get him to a vet. The vet can gently replace the
hemipenes, and if it won't stay in, take a suture to keep it in. I had a
P. standingi with a prolapse once... the vet had to take the suture,
left it in for a week. He re-prolapsed the next day. The vet sutured him
back up and left him for 3 weeks this time while running an antibiotic
regimen. This time it stayed in. That was over two years ago. He
fathered almost a dozen little ones last year and I just found the first
eggs of the year this morning!

BTW... if it dries out it will have to be amputated. He can certainly
survive, and even father young as they do have two!!!
