I have had some Gonatodes antillensis and G. fuscus. The first ones are not
that spectaculair, but nice and funny animals, if you keepthem in pairs.
Unless you are a splattermovie fan, I would not advise you to combine two
males...
These are from Curacao, a rather warm and dry island, so I kept them warm
and dry. I got an egg each two weeks or so and I had a smallpiece of hollow
bamboo in the viv. That's where the eggs were laid. I placed the eggs in a
small yar, which would function as a vivarium for the juveniles for the
first weeks as well.
I had quite some trouble getting the juveniles to grow as large as their
apernts. They would remain only half that size after half a year and started
growing when they were left free in a vivarium with their new owners. I was
told however they should reach maturity within less then half a year...
With Gonatodes fuscus, I had the problem they lived in a naturalistic
vivariu with dartfrogs and I could not find eggs nor catch the juveniles
that appeared. The parents did not bother the juves for the first month, but
then, as the larger juv disappeared, a smaller juv took its place. For over
a year I had a pair and a juv in my small dartfrog vivarium, but the pair
remained the same, but the juv was a new one every month or so..
