Julie:
Yes, you are correct. I need to stop going into these petstores at all, because
inevitably I notice that they have the geckos in conditions totally unsuitable to the
species, or they have them in a tank with various other lizards that don't belong
together. I then get all emotional and "rescue" them. What I have come to realize is
that all I'm doing is giving them empty cages to fill with yet more geckos. Oh well,
at least I have made 8 geckos happy. I did buy a U. Sikorae from a breeder recently,
and I am quite happy with him. There is a large show coming up here in Arizona in
May, and I am looking forward to going. I think I still have one corner in my
apartment that has some room...

Stick to reputable breeders and you'll be better off. You may not be able to avoid
parasites, they can show up no matter how clean or fastidious you are, but you can
increase the chance your geckos will be healthy by buying from people who know what
they are doing. I had much worse experiences than you with pet shops when I started
out in herps at about age 6. They should sell cat/dog food and forget about this
reptile stuff unless they are willing to do it right, which takes a *tiny* amount of
research with the power of the internet. Unfortunately a lot of cliches apply here,
"you get what you pay for," "buyer beware."
