Russ Bassett, President of Bassett's Cricket Ranch, called me this
morning as he had heard of my post on this List about their cricket
shipments through the postal service being rejected by the airlines.
The problem at this point is only with Skywest. I'll summarize what he
told me.
A box of crickets shipped by a competitor was damaged during a flight
from Fresno to Salt Lake City and crickets were supposedly "crawling on
passengers". This incident caused Skywest to deny insect shipments
early this week, which is actually in violation of their contract with
the postal service which specifically lists crickets as an approved
item. The directive came from Utah, not Fresno, so it affects all of
Skywest. The Post Office utilizes other carriers also, so this was just
a temporary glitch and they've worked around it.
Mr. Bassett got involved immediately to resolve the situation and feels
that will happen soon, but he's obviously troubled that something like
this could happen at all. He invited anyone with questions to call him
at 800-634-2445.
